Journalist Ed Dove of ESPN was shocked by the outlandish food prices at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium before the Brazil vs Morocco World Cup match.

The cost of attending the 2026 World Cup continues to be a huge talking point, and if you are lucky enough to get inside a stadium to watch a match, you then face having to pay an extraordinary price for food and drink.

Fans have been taking to social media, stunned by the price of refreshments at the stadiums, with journalist duo Osasu Obayiuwana and Ed Dove weighing in to share their disgust at what the latter described as an ‘underwhelming’ dinner.

‘I’m with my colleague here, Ed Dove of ESPN, and he went to get himself some food before the game between Brazil and Morocco, and you can see what is on the tray,’ Obayiuwana said in a video on X.

‘Some salad, a bottle of water, a croissant, and a heat-and-eat meal, Ed, can you tell everybody how much this costs?’

‘I think it was $52.98,’ Dove replied. ‘I was admittedly very hungry, but I didn’t ask the price before I purchased, and I was a little bit embarrassed to go back into the queue and give it back, so I went for it.

‘The croissant does look quite delicious, though it better be the best croissant I’ve ever eaten in my life,’ which Obayiuwana interrupted, saying, ‘Come on, Ed, $53 for this? It’s daylight and nighttime robbery!’

Dove estimated that the normal price of the meal would usually have been between €13 and €16, and in a follow-up video, revealed the meal ‘wasn’t very nice’ and he will be ‘thinking twice’ before paying for meals again.

The price of this year’s World Cup continues to be a big topic of discussion, and with people paying hundreds and thousands to get to games, the last thing they want to do is have to fork out north of 50 dollars for a package meal.
