Gailltír produced a blistering performance at Walsh Park to defeat Cappoquin 5-26 to 0-7 and book their place in the Waterford Senior Camogie Championship final.

The game was effectively decided in the opening half, with Gailltír racing into a 1-14 to 4-point lead at the interval.

There was a minute’s silence before the throw-in following the bereavement in the family of Gailltír’s Clodagh Carroll, who did not start.

Laoise Forrest came into the Gailltír side late and produced an outstanding performance, finishing with 1-11, including several scores from placed balls and frees.

Molly Comerford and Annie Fitzgerald were also major threats in attack.

Comerford finished with a goal and five points, while Fitzgerald struck three goals and added six points, with the pair combining for four goals and 11 points between them.

Cappoquin goalkeeper Tracey Kiely was outstanding despite the heavy defeat.

She produced three excellent one-on-one saves during the game, including two in the opening half to deny Fitzgerald further goals.

Cappoquin’s Aisling Power finished with five points, three of them coming in the second half, while Lorraine Bray and Róisín Uniacke also got on the scoresheet.

Kate Lynch was introduced for Gailltír with around 20 minutes remaining, with the former Waterford inter-county star returning after her time away travelling.

Gailltír continued to dominate after the break and eventually ran out 5-26 to 7-point winners.

For Cappoquin, Kiely, Power, Bray and Orla Hickey all put in strong individual performances, but they couldn’t contain a Gailltír attack that produced an exceptional scoring display.

Gailltír now turn their attention to the Senior Camogie Championship final, while they will also contest the senior ladies football final next week.
