WLR will mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks this Friday with two special documentaries, reflecting on a day that changed the world and the extraordinary connections between Waterford and the events of 9/11.

For so many people, September 11, 2001 is a date etched permanently in memory. We remember where we were, who we were with and the disbelief as the images from New York, Washington and Pennsylvania unfolded.

Twenty-five years on, WLR will commemorate the anniversary with two programmes telling the story of 9/11 through a distinctly Waterford lens.

From 11am on Friday, WLR will broadcast The Master Craftsman: The Story of Seán Egan, presented by Clodagh Walsh and produced by Michael and Robert Grant.

The documentary tells the remarkable story of Waterford master glass engraver Seán Egan and the connection his craft created with the people and story of 9/11.

The Master Craftsman explores that extraordinary journey and how one Waterford craftsman’s work created a lasting connection across the Atlantic.

Then, from 10pm to 11pm, WLR’s Geoff Harris presents 9/11 Stories, bringing listeners closer to the people behind one of the defining moments of modern history.

Having visited New York on a number of occasions and developed connections with people whose lives were directly affected by the attacks, Geoff hears first-hand accounts from firefighters, police officers and others who experienced September 11 and its aftermath.

The programme also features the voices of people from Waterford and the wider Irish community whose lives became intertwined with the events of that day.
