Today, September 16th, is World Barber Day, and there was plenty of reason to celebrate on The Big Breakfast Blaa on WLR!
Geoff and Dymphna were joined in studio by Ahmed from A-Class Barbers, who was in to mark the opening of his second barbershop in Waterford City.
Originally from Libya, Ahmed now lives in Waterford with his family and has built his business into a growing local success story, with A-Class Barbers now operating from two city centre outlets on Conduit Lane and Patrick Street.
With over 26 years of experience, Ahmed’s journey began when he was 14, supported by his family and friends who helped him open his first shop in his home town at the age of 18.
And if you think a trip to the barber is simply about getting your hair cut, Ahmed is here to change that idea!
What is a Turkish Barber?
A-Class offers the full Turkish barber experience, with everything from hot towel shaves and beard fades to nose waxing and ear candling, alongside a seemingly endless selection of hair and beard fade styles.
Ahmed talked Geoff and Dymphna through the experience from start to finish, explaining some of the traditions behind Turkish barbering and the wide range of treatments on offer.
There was even time for a little style consultation, with Geoff seeking Ahmed’s opinion on whether it might be time to bring back the much discussed mullet! (our Geoff rocked the mullet back in the day!)
And as Geoff discovered, when it comes to barbering, there is considerably more to it than simply getting the clippers out!
