A Supervalu store in Waterford is among a number of locations affected by a cyber incident involving refrigeration systems.

13 stores have been impacted, with chilled and frozen products removed from sale as a precaution.

According to The Irish Times, Waterford is among the locations affected, alongside stores in Lucan, Blanchardstown and Bray.

All affected stores remain open, with other products continuing to be sold as normal.

A spokesperson for SuperValu owner Musgrave said monitoring systems alerted the company to an issue affecting a specific model of refrigerator.

‘As a precaution, chilled and frozen products in the affected stores have been removed from sale, and all other products remain available as normal.

“Customer safety is our first priority, and customers can be confident that products on sale in our stores have been stored at safe temperatures.’

Musgrave says an investigation into the incident is ongoing and that it is working with refrigeration suppliers and cybersecurity specialists to restore normal operations.

It is not yet clear whether the incident is connected to similar cyber incidents involving supermarket refrigeration systems elsewhere in Europe.
