Waterford’s connection to the September 11th terrorist attacks is being remembered today, 25 years after the attacks in the United States.

A memorial ceremony will take place this afternoon outside the Bishop’s Palace, at the site where a piece of wreckage from the World Trade Center is on display.

The city also has a connection to the attacks through the work of Waterford glass engraver Seán Egan.

Seán was inspired to create engraved glass tributes to those who lost their lives and travelled to New York in the aftermath of the attacks to work on the project.

During his time there, he interacted with firefighters who were grieving colleagues and friends lost in the attacks.

One of Seán Egan’s sculptures is now on display at the Waterford Museum of Treasures.

Seán has been speaking to WLR about his experiences in New York and the story behind his work.
