Jordan and Cian Adams, known as the FTD Brothers, are bringing their inspiring nationwide fundraising challenge to Waterford today as they continue running 33 marathons in 33 days.

The FTD Brothers are travelling across the country to raise money for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland and Dementia Research Ireland while also raising awareness of Frontotemporal Dementia, known as FTD.

The Waterford leg of the challenge begins from the People’s Park at around 10 o’clock this morning, with supporters encouraged to join the FTD Brothers for part of the route or cheer them on from the sidelines.

FTD Brothers story

The story behind the FTD Brothers challenge is deeply personal.

Jordan and Cian Adams both tested positive for the rare gene linked to Frontotemporal Dementia after losing their mother Geraldine to the condition at the age of 52.

Frontotemporal Dementia is a rare form of dementia that affects behaviour, personality and communication, often impacting people at a younger age than other forms of the disease.

Since starting their challenge earlier this month, the Brothers have received support from communities around the country and have already raised significant funds for dementia services and research.

People in Waterford are being encouraged to come out along the route with banners and flags to support the FTD Brothers as they continue their marathon challenge.

The Brothers say their goal is not only to raise money, but also to start conversations about dementia and support families affected by Frontotemporal Dementia.
