Waterford Chamber has joined four other regional Chambers in calling for an urgent Government commitment to deliver the N24 corridor between Waterford and Limerick.

The Chambers representing Waterford, Kilkenny, Limerick, Tipperary and Wexford have written jointly to Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien and Public Expenditure Minister Jack Chambers.

They want the N24 treated as a single strategic corridor between the two cities and are seeking a commitment to its delivery during the lifetime of the current Government.

Waterford Chamber CEO Gerald Hurley said businesses need certainty after years of discussion around the route.

‘The N24 has been talked about for 20 years, that’s long enough,’ he said.

‘Businesses across the region now need certainty, a clear timeline and a commitment from Government to get this road delivered.’

The Chambers have raised particular concerns about progress on the Waterford to Cahir section, which received €500,000 in funding this year to enter Phase 3.

They are seeking a multi-annual funding commitment for Phases 3 and 4 of the project, along with clear milestones for planning, procurement and construction.

The group also wants the Cahir to Limerick project to proceed to statutory planning without further delay.

Mr. Hurley said improving the N24 would strengthen economic links between the South East and Mid-West and improve connectivity between Waterford and Limerick.

The five Chambers, which collectively represent more than 2,220 businesses employing around 111,000 people, have requested a meeting with both Ministers to discuss the project.
