Emergency services were called out early this morning following a report of a person entering the water near the bus station on The Quay in Waterford.

Waterford City River Rescue, and the Irish Coast Guard coordinated the response alongside Waterford City Fire Service, the National Ambulance Service, and An Garda Síochána. The alarm was raised at around 5:35am, with crews launching at approximately 5:40am.

On arrival, Gardaí took the person into their care at the scene.

The operation resulted in a successful outcome.

The Irish Coast Guard thanked all agencies involved, including the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, for their rapid response.

Authorities are also reminding the public of the importance of making an early call to emergency services if someone is in difficulty in water, so the appropriate response can be deployed without delay.

Anyone in distress is urged to call 999 or 112 and ask for the Irish Coast Guard, and to never assume someone else has already made the call.
