Almost 250 new homes could be built across Waterford under four separate planning applications lodged in recent weeks.
The proposals, covering Waterford City, Cheekpoint, Dunmore East and the growing Knightswood estate, would deliver a mix of houses, apartments and duplexes, while one scheme also includes a childcare facility.
If approved, the four developments would add 241 homes to the county’s housing stock.
Plans for 64 homes at Gibbet Hill
A planning application has been lodged for a 64-home residential development at Gibbet Hill near Quarry Road on the outskirts of Waterford City.
Micheal Doyle Civil Engineering Ltd is seeking permission for a mix of 30 houses and 34 apartments.
The housing element would comprise semi-detached, terraced and detached four-bedroom homes, while the apartment accommodation would be spread across two blocks.
The plans also include a new road access from Bowefield, parking, cycle facilities, landscaping, public open space, lighting and utility connections.
However, the application has been marked as incomplete, with further information required before it can proceed.
New housing scheme proposed in Cheekpoint
Elsewhere, plans have been submitted for a 65-home development in Cheekpoint.
The proposed scheme includes 13 four-bedroom detached houses, 40 three-bedroom semi-detached homes, four single-storey semi-detached houses and eight single-storey detached homes.
The development would include two new vehicular and pedestrian entrances onto Cullens Hill, along with two pedestrian entrances onto Strand Road.
Road widening and realignment works, new footpaths, landscaping and associated site works also form part of the proposal.
A Natura Impact Statement will be submitted as part of the planning application.
Twenty homes planned for Dunmore East
A smaller residential development has also been proposed in Dunmore East.
NBC Residential Limited is seeking permission for a 20-home scheme comprising a mix of houses and apartments.
The development would include 16 houses, ranging from single-storey homes to dormer-style and two-storey properties.
Four own-door two-bedroom apartments are also planned.
The proposal includes a new site entrance, landscaping, utility connections and associated site works.
Knightswood expansion would add 92 homes
The largest of the four applications relates to the next phase of the Knightswood Estate development.
Vetra Construction Ltd has lodged plans for Phase Four of the scheme, which would provide 92 new residential units.
The proposal includes 24 houses, 16 duplex units and 52 apartments across two apartment buildings.
One of the apartment blocks would also accommodate a childcare facility with capacity for 75 children.
New roads, footpaths, public open space, communal amenity areas, parking, bicycle storage and refuse facilities are also planned.
The development would also provide pedestrian and vehicle links to earlier phases of Knightswood and neighbouring residential areas.
Growing pipeline of housing developments
Taken together, the four applications would deliver 241 homes across Waterford if granted planning permission.
The proposals represent one of the largest batches of residential planning applications lodged in the county in recent months, with developments planned in the city and across several surrounding communities.
