A vessel has been involved in an incident in Dunmore East Harbour after it appeared to lose mechanical control while entering the harbour.

The vessel, understood to be a research vessel involved in offshore energy work, caused damage to a number of local boats within the harbour.

The RNLI was tasked with the incident after the vessel lost mechanical power. It was taken to the other side of the harbour wall, where the damage was assessed.

Local fishermen are now dealing with the clean-up and assessing the extent of the damage.

In a separate incident, a yacht ran aground in the Strand area of Dunmore East this morning, with assistance requested.
