More than 100 cyclists will take to the roads of Munster next week as the 2026 Tour de Munster gets underway in support of Down Syndrome Ireland.

The four day, 600 kilometre charity cycle begins on Thursday, August 6, travelling through all six Munster counties, including Waterford, before finishing in Cork on Sunday.

Irish cycling legend Seán Kelly will once again lead the Tour, with participants raising funds for the Munster branches of Down Syndrome Ireland.

Since it began in 2001, Tour de Munster has raised more than €5.5 million to support services including speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, employment programmes and practical supports for children and adults with Down syndrome.

Claire Power, Chairperson of Down Syndrome Ireland Waterford and South Kilkenny Branch, says the event continues to make a real difference to families across the region.

‘The event has become a wonderful tradition, bringing communities across Munster together in support of people with Down syndrome. The funds raised play a vital role in helping branches like ours provide essential services, giving children and adults with Down syndrome the support they need to grow in confidence and achieve their potential.’

People are being encouraged to support the cyclists along the route or make a donation throughout the four day event.
