The Sunny South East Cycle returns to Waterford this Sunday, August 23rd, bringing cyclists and families together to raise vital funds for the Waterford & South Kilkenny Branch of Down Syndrome Ireland.
Now in its latest edition, the popular event will see cyclists set off from SETU Arena from 9am, with 80km and 125km routes available for experienced cyclists. A 12km family cycle along the Greenway will follow afterwards, making the event accessible to people of all ages and abilities.
Speaking about the event, organiser Aoife Ennis said the atmosphere on the morning of the cycle is always something special, with cyclists returning year after year and strong friendships having developed through the event.
Funds raised will help the branch provide speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, therapeutic horse riding and a range of life-enhancing activities, including dance, bowling and swimming. The branch is entirely volunteer-run, with parents and supporters giving their time to organise activities and fundraisers throughout the year.
Registration costs €50 for the 80km or 125km cycles, while the family cycle costs €25 per family. For those unable to attend, fundraising pages have also been set up online to allow people to support the cause from home.
With cyclists, marshals, first aid and refreshments all in place, organisers are looking forward to another memorable morning in the Sunny South East, and are encouraging the local community to get involved and show their support.
