A number of homes and businesses remain without power on Wednesday morning following on from Tuesday’s weather warning.
An eight-hour yellow wind alert was in effect for counties Cork, Clare, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford on Tuesday.
The worst hit areas saw fallen trees blocking roads and waves overtopping along coastal routes.
There have been some reported cases of power lines coming down as a result, with Dublin Fire Brigade sharing a glimpse at power lines which came down in Malahide Road.
‘A falling tree took down power lines which then landed on a car,’ they shared. ‘Power is out in the area. The road is fully closed. We’ve requested the assistance of ESB Networks and Gardaí.’
On Wednesday morning, RTÉ reports more than 2,700 premises across the country remain without power.
ESB Networks have confirmed they are working to restore power following the weather alert.
The organisation has advised customers to keep up to date with their website for latest updates.
Following on from the weather alert, Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly has confirmed a ‘calmer’ Wednesday morning is upon us.
‘A mix of sunny spells and scattered showers today and still very breezy,’ he added.
Met Éireann have issued a similar forecast, adding that Thursday will be mainly dry with some sunny spells — though showery rain will develop in the west and spread eastwards through to the late afternoon.
Thursday night will be another wet night with rain spreading easterly across the country.

Friday will see a further mix of sunny spells and showers, with some showers expected to turn heavy before clearing to the east in the evening.
Looking towards the weekend, Saturday will be the best of the two days with the national forecaster predicting ‘mainly dry with bright or sunny spells’ particularly over Leinster and Munster.
Sunday will be cloudier with rain in the west and north throughout the morning. This is expected to extend southeastwards come the afternoon.
Met Éireann said: ‘Current indications suggest that Monday will be mild and mainly dry with highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees and moderate west to southwest winds.’
