Planning permission has been granted for the major redevelopment of one of Tramore’s best-known buildings.

Waterford City and County Council has given the green light for the transformation of the long-derelict Grand Hotel on Broad Street into a 40-unit apart-hotel.

The landmark building has been vacant for more than a decade and will undergo extensive refurbishment as part of the approved plans.

The development includes the removal of two single-storey annexes, along with a number of later additions to the rear of the building. The interior will be stripped back to its structural frame before being refurbished, while new windows, doors and entrances will also be installed.

The approved plans also include a new third-floor extension facing Little Market Street, together with guest facilities including a reception area, office and staff facilities, laundry and storage areas.

Externally, a new entrance canopy, signage, landscaped public spaces and a 12-space car park, including one accessible parking space, will also be developed.

The planning application was submitted by Magna Capital Investments Limited in May.

The Authority granted permission for the redevelopment on July 17, subject to 16 planning conditions.
