The woman found dead at a property near Youghal Bridge in County Waterford has been named locally as Noreen Daly.

A man in his 30s was arrested on Tuesday (this morning) in connection with the Garda investigation and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at a Garda station in the South Eastern Region.

The arrest follows the discovery of the body of a woman, believed to be in her 80s, at a residential property in Ardsallagh shortly after 2pm on Monday.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and the property remains preserved for forensic examination.

Ms Daly was well known in the local community, particularly for her involvement in the arts. Fine Gael Cllr Pat Nugent, who is originally from the Ardsallagh area and knew her, described her as a “humble woman” who was active in the Youghal Active Retirement Association.

He said she “enjoyed singing”, “loved opera” and was a “familiar” figure at community events and arts activities in the area.

A Senior Investigating Officer is leading the investigation and an incident room has been established at Dungarvan Garda Station.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place, while Garda inquiries are continuing.
