The Munster Fleadh Ceoil in Lismore has received a €30,000 funding boost ahead of this year’s festival.

Minister of State for Planning and Local Government John Cummins has announced €15,000 from the Local Government Fund, while a further €15,000 will be provided by Waterford City and County Council.

The Munster Fleadh Ceoil na Mumhan takes place in Lismore from July 11th to 18th and is expected to attract thousands of visitors to the town and wider West Waterford area.

Minister Cummins says the festival will provide a significant boost for tourism and the local economy while showcasing the region to visitors from across Munster and beyond.

Lismore has a strong connection with the Munster Fleadh Ceoil, having previously hosted the event in 2000 and 2006. This year’s festival marks 20 years since the town last welcomed the provincial celebration of Irish traditional music, song and dance.

The festival will also include celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. It is being hosted by the CCÉ Ballyduff, Ballinvella and Ballysaggart branch.

A packed programme of events is planned, including traditional music, singing, storytelling, set dancing, céilí dancing and sean-nós competitions, alongside workshops and session trails throughout the week.
