A Moderate Weather Advisory has been issued for Waterford and the rest of the country as Met Éireann warns of a prolonged spell of very warm to hot weather.

The advisory comes into effect from 2pm on Friday, July 10, and remains in place until midnight on Friday, July 17.

Daytime temperatures are expected to widely exceed 25°C, with highs reaching the upper 20s and possibly 30°C in some areas. The UV Index is forecast to be high to very high, while warm and humid nights with temperatures remaining above 15°C are also expected.

Met Éireann says there is also the possibility of thunderstorms developing on Wednesday and Thursday.

The warm weather could lead to increased water safety risks as more people visit beaches, lakes and rivers, along with heat stress, dehydration, uncomfortable sleeping conditions, potential transport disruption, animal welfare concerns and an increased risk of wildfires.

The public is advised to stay hydrated, limit exposure to the sun during peak hours and keep up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings from Met Éireann.
