Marion’s legacy
Marion was closely involved in the running of the circus throughout her life and was part of one of Ireland’s best known circus families.
She grew up immersed in circus life from a very early age, once brought into a circus tent in a basket on an elephant as an 18 month old, and later recalling standing on a baby elephant at the age of five.
In the 1970s she was encouraged to pursue singing by her friend Candy Devine, a jazz singer, and left the circus for a period to work in cabaret, performing internationally.
She later joined the all female group Sheeba alongside Maxi and Frances Campbell. The group went on to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with Horoscopes.
Her passing has prompted tributes from across the Irish entertainment world, where she was widely regarded as a unique and enduring figure in circus and stage life.
