A father and daughter have died in a workplace incident in Co Offaly.

The tragedy unfolded shortly after 11am on Monday morning with Gardaí and emergency services attending the scene.

The man was aged in his 50s, and the woman was in her 20s. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

RTÉ report the fatalities occurred onsite at Banagher Precast Concrete in County Offaly.

The bodies of the deceased remain at the scene. A post-mortem examination will take place at Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore in due course.

The Health and Safety Authority confirmed they were aware of the fatal incident, and they had launched an investigation.

A statement from An Garda Síochána confirmed they attended an industrial premises in Banagher, Co Offaly on Monday morning.

They said: ‘Two people, a male (aged in his 50’s) and a female (aged in her 20’s) were pronounced deceased at the scene. A post-mortem examination will take place at Tullamore General Hospital at a later date. The coroner has been notified.’
