Jigsaw Waterford has begun accepting referrals from young people across the county from today.

The free mental health service will provide early intervention support to people aged between 12 and 25 who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.

Referrals can be made by young people themselves, as well as by parents, GPs and teachers.

Jigsaw Waterford will initially operate from a temporary location at Buíon Phort Láirge, 64 O’Connell Street in Waterford City.

Work is currently underway on the service’s permanent home at Canada Street, which is expected to become operational later in the autumn.

The majority of the Jigsaw Waterford team are due to take up their positions during August, with recruitment continuing for a remaining management position.

Services will initially operate on a phased basis, with capacity expected to increase as additional staff begin working and the permanent premises opens.

Work is also continuing to identify suitable outreach locations in West Waterford and South Wexford.

€1 Million in Recurring Funding

The Waterford service is being supported by €1 million in recurring funding allocated in Budget 2026.

Minister for Mental Health and Waterford TD Mary Butler confirmed the opening of referrals on Monday.

Lease arrangements for the permanent premises at Canada Street have been finalised, with refurbishment works currently underway.

Young people aged 12 to 25, as well as parents, guardians, teachers and healthcare professionals, can find further information on making a referral through Jigsaw’s website.
