A West Waterford business owner says she has been left devastated after extensive fire and smoke damage was discovered at her newly opened business in Stradbally.

Celtic Bull Garden Centre and Farmers Shop officially opened on Saturday, the 19th of September, with owner Alexandra Krynicka saying a large crowd attended the launch.

However, when her family returned the following morning, they discovered thick black smoke inside the premises.

Alexandra told Déise Today that her first concern was for pet rabbits inside the building, which were safely removed.

She said a large amount of stock and locally made craft items were damaged, while walls, ceilings, furniture and equipment were covered in heavy smoke residue.

Gardaí have confirmed they are investigating an incident of criminal damage by fire at a premises in Stradbally, believed to have occurred sometime between Saturday evening, September 19th and the following morning.

Alexandra said the damage had been ‘devastating’ after the family put significant time, effort and money into creating the business.

She also praised the response from the local community, saying a large number of people from Stradbally and surrounding areas had come to help with the clean-up.

A GoFundMe has also been set up to help with the cost of repairs and rebuilding.

Garda investigations are ongoing.
