Dunmore East RNLI volunteers responded to four call-outs over the past week, including three within a 24-hour period.

The first came on Tuesday evening after reports of a swimmer who appeared to be in difficulty in Dunmore East Bay. The swimmer was checked on and confirmed they did not require assistance.

On Saturday evening, the crew assisted a 180-tonne commercial guard vessel which had lost mechanical control in Dunmore East Harbour and made contact with a number of small fishing boats.

The lifeboat crew brought the vessel under control and returned it safely to the harbour wall.

The crew were called out again on Sunday morning during an Orange weather warning after a sailing vessel broke free from its mooring and became beached on Lawlor’s Strand.

Later that evening, they were tasked for a fourth time to stand by while Dunmore East Sailing Club successfully refloated the yacht.

Dunmore East RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager Liz Power praised the volunteer crew.

‘Three call-outs within 24 hours is a significant ask, and I’m very proud of the way everyone responded,’ she said.

The RNLI is reminding people to check weather and tide conditions before going afloat and to call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard if they believe someone may be in difficulty.
