The overall crime rate for the Waterford Garda Division fell by 7.93% in 2024.
That’s according to figures provided from the Central Statistics Office which show an almost 8% drop in crime comparing 2023 to 2024.
Across 19 districts, there were 5,912 recorded crimes in County Waterford last year – compared to 6,421 a year prior.
The biggest increase in crime has been seen in Ardmore while the biggest decrease is in Portlaw.
There were also significant decreases in crime in Dungarvan, Ballymacarbry and Tallow – while the rate has risen in Passage, Cappoquin and An Rinn.
Waterford City accounts for over 65% of county-wide crime last year, compared to 61% in 2023.
Dungarvan saw a significant drop in its share, from 17% in 2023 to 12.4% in 2024.
