A contract has been signed for the construction of a new water sports facility on Tramore Prom.

Waterford City and County Council has signed the agreement with Conor Phelan Construction, allowing work on the project to move ahead.

The facility will include hot and cold showers, a changing places toilet, an induction space and storage for beach wheelchairs.

Existing toilet facilities on the Prom will also be upgraded as part of the works.

The project is being delivered by Waterford City and County Council with support from Fáilte Ireland under its Platforms for Growth scheme.

The Council says the new facility will support activities including surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding and sea swimming.

Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr. Liam Brazil, said the development would strengthen Tramore’s appeal as a destination for water sports.

The project is also intended to support local activity operators and improve facilities for both residents and visitors throughout the year.
