Work is set to begin next month on a major upgrade of the water network in Ballybeg.

Uisce Éireann is replacing around 1.1km of ageing water mains along Ballybeg Drive, from the roundabout to Ballybeg Stores.

The works are due to begin in October and are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Uisce Éireann says the existing mains have become increasingly prone to leaks and bursts, resulting in occasional supply interruptions and the loss of treated drinking water.

The upgrade will also include new water service connections from the public main to customers’ property boundaries.

Dave Murphy of Uisce Éireann said the works are aimed at improving reliability and reducing future disruption.

‘These works in Ballybeg will help reduce leaks, minimise future disruptions and provide a stronger water network for the community,’ he said.

He added that the investment will also support homes, businesses and future development in the area.

The project is being delivered by Shareridge Ltd on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

The works form part of the National Leakage Reduction Programme, with Uisce Éireann saying national leakage levels have fallen from 49% in 2014 to 36% today.
