Waterford cyclist Evan Keane has been named the August winner of the WLR Granville Waterford Sport Award following a remarkable performance which saw him crowned Munster Road Race Champion.

The Waterford rider built a significant advantage over the chasing field and held his nerve throughout the closing stages to claim a memorable Munster title.

There was further Waterford success on the podium, with Patrick O’Loughlin of Panduit Carrick Wheelers taking silver and Waterford Racing’s James Griffin claiming bronze.

That meant two Waterford riders joined Keane on the Munster championship podium following an impressive day of racing in Whitechurch.

Keane’s victory was particularly notable given the distance he spent riding alone, with more than 80 kilometres separating him from the chasing riders as he battled towards the finish.

The Munster Road Race Championship adds another significant achievement to what has been an impressive period for the Waterford cyclist.

His performance in Whitechurch showcased his strength, determination and ability to maintain his pace over a long solo breakaway.

The August WLR Granville Waterford Sport Award recognises Keane’s Munster championship success and a performance that made him one of the month’s standout local sporting achievers.

Keane’s victory also highlights the strength of cycling in Waterford, with O’Loughlin and Griffin completing an all-Waterford presence on the Munster podium.

After more than 80 kilometres out in front, Evan Keane crossed the line as Munster Road Race Champion and is now the August winner of the WLR Granville Waterford Sport Award.
