Waterford AC sprinter Benjamin Richardson has been named the July winner of the WLR Granville Waterford Sport Award following a remarkable month which saw him claim national sprint honours and set a new Championship Record.

Richardson enjoyed an outstanding weekend at the 123.ie National Senior Track and Field Championships at Morton Stadium in Santry, completing a superb sprint double by winning both the men’s 200 metres and 100 metres.

The Waterford AC athlete produced the performance of the weekend in the 100 metres final, storming to victory in 10.13 seconds to set a new Championship Record.

Richardson finished ahead of UCD’s defending champion Bori Akinola, who took silver in 10.21 seconds, while Tallaght AC’s Sean Aigboboh claimed bronze in 10.26.

The Championship Record capped a memorable weekend for Richardson, who had already secured the 200 metres title on Saturday.

His performances in Santry were among the highlights of a hugely successful championships, which also saw Sophie O’Sullivan set a new Championship Record in the women’s 1,500 metres.

Richardson’s achievements have now been recognised with the July WLR Granville Waterford Sport Award, celebrating his contribution to Waterford sport and his outstanding performances on the national stage.

The award adds another significant achievement to what has been a remarkable period for the Waterford AC sprinter, who continues to establish himself as one of the leading athletes in Irish sprinting.

Richardson’s success has also been a source of pride for Waterford AC, with his national titles and record-breaking performance showcasing the strength of athletics in the county.

The July award recognises not only Richardson’s Championship Record but also the consistency and progression he has shown throughout the season.
