It could well be one of the biggest sporting weekends ever, with world titles, All-Ireland finals, international rugby, golf, soccer and local championship action all taking place over the next three days.

Friday sees the culmination of the 2026 World GAA Games as Finals Day takes place at Azzurri Walsh Park, bringing together teams from across the globe after a memorable week in Waterford. Golf fans will be following Round Two of The Open Championship, while Waterford FC host Cobh Ramblers in the second round of the FAI Cup at the Regional Sports Centre, with kick-off at 7.45pm. WLR will have live Updates.

Saturday gets underway with Ireland taking on New Zealand in Round 3 of the Nations Championship Rugby at 8.10am.

There is a packed programme in the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship. In Group A, Ferrybank face Clonea at 2pm in a must-win game for both sides before De La Salle take on Passage at 5pm. In Group B, Ballygunner B meet Fourmilewater at 2.30pm, while Dún Garbhan face Mount Sion at 6.45pm.

The TG4 All-Ireland Senior Ladies Football Championship semi-finals also take centre stage. Armagh face Galway at 3.15pm in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, before Dublin meet Kerry at 5.15pm in FBD Semple Stadium, Thurles, with places in the All-Ireland Final on the line.

Waterford FC Women are also in action against Peamount United in the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division, while Round Three of The Open Championship continues. Saturday also features the FIFA Men’s World Cup Third Place Play-Off, with England taking on France as both sides look to finish their campaigns on a high.

Sunday is another huge day of sport. Galway and Limerick battle for the Liam MacCarthy Cup in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final at Croke Park, with throw-in at 3.30pm.

The local championship continues with Abbeyside/Ballinacourty taking on Ballygunner at 1pm in Group A, while Roanmore face Lismore at 6.30pm in Group B.

The sporting weekend reaches its climax at 8pm when Argentina face Spain in the FIFA Men’s World Cup Final in New York/New Jersey Stadium.

The Open Championship also concludes on Sunday as the Claret Jug is decided.

From the World GAA Games Finals in Waterford to the All-Ireland hurling decider, the Ladies Football semi-finals, World Cup matches, international rugby, The Open and local championship action, it promises to be a remarkable weekend for sports fans.
