Waterford cyclist Evan Keane has been crowned Munster Road Race Champion after an outstanding solo performance in Whitechurch, County Cork.

Keane, riding for Pinergy Orwell Wheelers, produced a remarkable ride to spend more than 80 kilometres out on his own before crossing the finish line as the provincial champion.

It was a dominant display from the Waterford rider, who built a significant advantage over the chasing field and held his nerve to take the title.

There was further Waterford success on the podium, with Patrick O’Loughlin of Panduit Carrick Wheelers taking silver and Waterford Racing’s James Griffin claiming the bronze medal.

The result means two Waterford riders feature on the Munster championship podium following an impressive day of racing in Whitechurch.

Keane’s victory is particularly notable given the length of his solo break, with the Waterford rider showing huge strength and determination to stay clear for more than 80 kilometres and secure the Munster title.
