Waterford hurling legend Austin Gleeson has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling.

The Mount Sion man made the announcement this evening on Off The Ball, and brings the curtain down on a phenomenal Déise career, having made his senior debut in 2014.

Gleeson went on to establish himself as one of the outstanding hurlers of his generation.

He was named Hurler of the Year in 2016 following a remarkable season with Waterford.

Over the course of his career, the now 31 year old became a key figure for the county and a hugely popular player among Waterford supporters.

His retirement marks the end of an era for Waterford hurling, with Gleeson having represented the county at the highest level for more than a decade.
