The Waterford Senior Football Championship gets underway this weekend, with eight teams beginning their bid to lift the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Senior Football Championship title.

The championship is split into two groups of four, with the opening round taking place across Waterford on Sunday.

In Group A, An Rinn face The Nire at Fraher Field on Sunday at 3.30 pm, while Gaultier take on Kilrossanty at Walsh Park at 3.45 pm.

Group B also gets underway on Sunday, with Roanmore meeting Rathgormack at Walsh Park at 2 pm, while Abbeyside/Ballinacourty face Stradbally at Fraher Field, also at 2 pm.

The group stages will run across three rounds, with the second round taking place the following weekend before the final round on September 26th and 27th.

In Group A, The Nire, Gaultier, An Rinn and Kilrossanty will battle it out for the places in the knockout stages, while Group B features Rathgormack, Abbeyside/Ballinacourty, Roanmore and Stradbally.

The opening weekend promises plenty of intrigue, with several of Waterford’s leading football clubs beginning their championship campaigns and looking to lay down an early marker.

The second round of fixtures will take place on September 19th and 20th, with the final group games scheduled for September 26th and 27th.

The JJ Kavanagh & Sons Co. Senior Football Championship is therefore set for a busy three weeks, with every result potentially crucial in determining who progresses from the two groups.
