Waterford badminton players enjoyed an outstanding day of success at the Badminton Ireland National Graded Finals, which took place at the National Indoor Arena in Dublin on May 9th.

Players had previously competed in qualification events throughout the badminton season to secure their places at the national finals, with Waterford competitors making a major impact across several grades.

Tramore Badminton Club players Ruth Farrell and Emma Murphy claimed Gold in the Grade H Ladies Doubles after an impressive performance throughout the competition.

There was further success for Waterford Badminton Club as Lucy Finnegan captured Gold in the Grade G Singles, defeating her sister Amy Finnegan in the final. The sisters also teamed up to finish as runners-up in the Grade G Doubles competition.

Caoimhe Corcoran added to the medal haul for the Déise by winning Gold in the Grade F Singles, while also finishing runner-up in the Grade F Mixed Doubles.

In the Grade D Mixed competition, Shea Farrell of Waterford Badminton Club finished as runner-up alongside his partner. Unfortunately, due to injury, they were unable to compete in the final.

Overall, it was a hugely successful day for Waterford badminton, particularly for the county’s female athletes, with several standout performances showcasing the growing strength of the sport across the Déise.
