US President Donald Trump tried to photobomb Spain’s World Cup trophy lift at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

Trump had to be led away by the elbow as he seemingly repeatedly refused to step off the stage as the Spanish players prepared to celebrate their historic win.

The European champions took home their second World Cup title after outplaying Lionel Messi‘s Argentina 1-0 in extra time, following a late strike from forward Ferran Torres.

Trump was booed as he made his way down onto the field to hand out the medals, alongside controversial FIFA chief Gianni Infantino.

The US President presented the prestigious title to Spain captain Rodri, who took great pleasure in raising it aloft in East Rutherford.

Much like when he presented the Club World Cup title last summer, Trump stood awkwardly alongside the Spain squad as they lifted the trophy and celebrated wildly.

As Spain was about to perform the trophy lift, Infantino had attempted to usher Trump away from the players – but Trump ignored his pleas.

He stood to the side of the squad as the confetti cannons went off, clapping and grinning while Infantino laughed off Trump’s awkward cameo.

There were an estimated 1.5-1.8 billion viewers tuning in to watch the summer tournament’s showpiece finale.

Trump eventually made his way off the specially constructed stage after being led away by the FIFA boss.

‘They can edit him out of that,’ SBS host Claudio Fabiano could be heard saying.

Trump has made no secret of his feelings towards the Spanish government.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez leads the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party and is one of the world’s most prominent critics of Trump.

‘I don’t want anything to do with Spain,’ Trump said at a NATO summit in Türkiye earlier this month.

‘They’re hopeless. Bad people.’
