Kilkenny hurling great TJ Reid has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable career with the Cats.

The seven-time All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship winner will not return to the Kilkenny panel for the 2027 season, ending a 20-year association with his county.

Reid made his Kilkenny debut in 2007 and went on to establish himself as one of the outstanding players of his generation. His achievements included being named Hurler of the Year in 2015.

Reflecting on his decision, Reid admitted that stepping away from inter-county hurling was difficult after so many years representing Kilkenny.

He said it had been a huge part of his life, but that he was leaving with immense pride and no regrets.

Reid added that when he first pulled on the Kilkenny jersey in 2007, he never imagined he would still be representing his county two decades later, describing it as the greatest privilege of his life.

His retirement marks the end of a significant chapter in Kilkenny hurling, with Reid having played a major role in the county’s success over the past two decades.
