It was a night for ‘The Rossies’ when six Roscommon LGFA players were honoured with one of the biggest sporting accolades of the year.

In August, the team was named the TG4 Intermediate Champions after edging out Fermanagh in Croke Park, bouncing back from a loss against Leitrim in the Connacht final.

On Friday, six of the players returned to Croker to receive their medals.

That included All-Ireland-winning captain Helena Cummins, defenders Áine Connaughton, Saoirse Wynne, Ella Thompson, midfielder Abby Curran and forward Aisling Feely.

Elsewhere, four players from the runners-up Fermanagh team were also named on the Intermediate Team, including captain Shannan McQuade and defender Cadhla-Cara Bogue, as well as Niamh McManus and Eimear Smyth.

Friday’s award ceremony also recognised the junior team players and in particular Antrim’s nerve-jangling win.

The team was represented on the night by Maeve Blaney, Carla McKenna, Maeve Mulholland, Player of the Match Lana Dahunsi, Theresa Mellon and Maria O’Neill, the top scorer in the 2026 TG4 All-Ireland Championships and ZuCar Golden Boot award winner.

The runners-up in the championship, Carlow, have seven players on the TG4 Junior Team of the Championship.

The win will see Antrim step up to the Intermediate Championship ranks in 2027, while Roscommon will now operate at Senior Level, said Ladies Gaelic Football Association President, Trina Murray.

While Friday’s awards saw the players swap jerseys for cocktail glam, some of the players were back to battling it on the pitch again on Saturday as Clann na nGael line out against Boyle in the county senior LGFA final.
