Irish golfing great Pádraig Harrington captured his third U.S. Senior Open title after producing a composed final-round performance to win the 2026 championship.

Harrington, who began the day with a narrow advantage, quickly took control of the tournament with birdies on the opening two holes, turning a one-shot deficit into a three-shot lead and setting the tone for the remainder of the round.

Speaking after lifting the trophy, the three-time major champion admitted the victory felt different from his previous successes, with far less drama on the closing stretch.

“It feels great, but obviously there wasn’t the drama that I normally provide down the stretch,” Harrington said.

Despite the comfortable margin of victory, the Dubliner revealed he was determined to stay fully focused throughout the final round.

“I was really trying to stay in it and stay focused. I knew I had a nice lead, which let me play to the middle of the greens and hit the shots I needed.”

Harrington credited his excellent putting for the victory, saying it had been the key to his success over the four days.

“I had a great week putting. Golf is easier when you putt well.”

The 54-year-old pointed to a birdie on the sixth hole as the turning point after dropping a shot at the previous hole.

“That got me back into my comfort zone,” he explained, adding that several quality approach shots over the closing holes allowed him to avoid any late pressure.

Reflecting on his fast start, Harrington said the opening birdies gave him immediate confidence.

“I hit nice shots on the first two holes, and that allowed me to make birdies. From there I just kept hitting greens and didn’t make any mistakes.”

The victory adds another prestigious title to Harrington’s remarkable career and further cements his status as one of Ireland’s greatest-ever golfers.
