Newcastle United welcome Bournemouth to St James’ Park this afternoon as both sides look to build momentum in the early stages of the Premier League season, with kick-off at 12:30 pm.

Newcastle have taken four points from their opening two games and sit seventh in the table, while Bournemouth are still searching for their first victory of the campaign after collecting one point from their opening two matches.

Newcastle forward Yoane Wissa believes his side are in a good place heading into the contest, highlighting confidence and his physical condition as key reasons for his own strong start to the season.

Wissa is expecting an entertaining encounter between two sides who like to play with intensity.

“I think it’s going to be an open game,” Wissa said. “I hope we’re going to score one more than them.”

Bournemouth defender Adrien Truffert also expects a high-tempo contest, with both teams known for their pressing and ability to counter-attack.

Bournemouth, however, can take confidence from their recent record at St James’ Park. They have won their last two Premier League away games against Newcastle and have collected 14 points from eight visits to the ground.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have some defensive concerns to address. They have faced 44 shots in their opening two Premier League games — more than any other side in the division.

Newcastle are unchanged from last weekend’s 2-0 victory at Tottenham, with new signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo among the substitutes.

Bournemouth make one change from their draw with Everton, with Tyler Adams replacing Lewis Cook in midfield.

With Newcastle looking to continue their positive start and Bournemouth chasing their first win, an open and high-intensity contest is expected at St James’ Park.
