Munster produced a dominant display in Italy to secure a comprehensive 45-15 bonus-point victory over Benetton in Treviso, running in seven tries in an impressive all-round performance.
Clinical in attack and resilient in defence, the province showed their quality throughout – even holding firm while reduced to 13 men in the second half.
Munster made a fast start and were rewarded inside five minutes when winger Calvin Nash finished superbly in the right corner. Jack Crowley added an excellent touchline conversion to give the visitors early control.
The men in red continued to apply pressure, and slick interplay between Alex Nankivell and Tom Farrell created space for Farrell to race down the left wing for his first URC try, extending the lead to 12-0 after 17 minutes.
Benetton responded through a Jacob Umaga penalty after 26 minutes, but Munster quickly regained momentum. Gavin Coombes powered over from close range for their third try, with Crowley converting to stretch the advantage.
Jean Kleyn secured the bonus-point try before half-time, confirmed by the TMO, leaving Munster firmly in control.
Benetton did manage to get on the scoresheet with a well-worked try from the lineout, but Munster’s attacking threat remained relentless. A perfectly weighted kick from Crowley set up replacement Alex Kendellen for the province’s fifth try, before captain Tadhg Beirne added another moments later.
Despite being reduced to 13 men following yellow cards to Crowley and Craig Casey, Munster showed tremendous defensive resolve, conceding no points during that period.
Brian Gleeson capped off the scoring for Munster with a late try, with Crowley adding the conversion, while Benetton grabbed a consolation score in the final minute.
