Munster’s season may be collapsing before our eyes, but they are looking to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
After what was such a bright start under Clayton McMillan, there’s been huge chaos behind the scenes, from redundancies to the Roger Randle debacle, and now Munster could drop out of the URC playoffs if they lose to the Lions this Saturday.
It’s been one of the worst seasons in living memory for Munster fans, and it looks like now they are going to try to throw money at the problem as they table a huge offer to a well-established All Black.

The Irish Examiner have reported that Munster have offered a huge contract to All Blacks tighthead prop Tyrel Lomax to move to Limerick next season. Lomax is currently with the Hurricanes in Super Rugby Pacific and has been capped by the All Blacks 48 times.
Lomax originally played for the Australia U20s, but switched to the nation of his birth in 2018 and has since started in the 2023 World Cup final, where South Africa defeated the All Blacks. Standing at 6’4 and weighing over 120kg, Lomax is one of the biggest props in World Rugby, and will surely have the credentials to help Munster’s prop woes.
Munster have had multiple seasons now of injury issues in the front row, with Oli Jager not being able to stay fit consistently since moving back to Ireland in 2023. They have had to rely on John Ryan as well as emergency signing Michael Ala’alatoa to plug in gaps in Jager’s absence.

Munster have also announced the signing of Connacht prop Jack Aungier on a two-year deal. The former Leinster man is making the move to Limerick after six years out west, where he made his test debut for Ireland last summer away in Georgia.
Adding Aungier and Lomax will certainly bolster Munster’s prop profile, and with their struggles in the scrums, Clayton McMillan’s side could certainly use some beefing up in those areas.
It’s truly back to the drawing board this summer for the Red Army. This season has been a complete disaster, and they now need to get their act together before it gets even worse.
