Karen McDonald, the mum of Mayo footballers Jordan Flynn and Kobe McDonald, has lifted the lid on her youngest son’s upcoming move to Australia.

The brothers were part of the historic team to lift Sam Maguire on Sunday after getting a victory over Kerry in the All-Ireland Senior Football final.

The victory put an end to a 75-year famine since the last time they won the championship title in 1951.

Among the star players were brothers Jordan Flynn and Kobe McDonald, with proud mum Karen admitting she didn’t think ‘we’ll ever feel that again.’

Speaking to EVOKE, the proud mum recalled that the brothers never argued growing up.

She added that the strong family bond has stretched out to the lads’ partners, Jessie and Leah.

Jessie Brown met Jordan when they were 14 years old. The couple are set to wed later this year.

Similarly, Kobe met his girlfriend Leah Maheady in his secondary school days. The pair have been together for three years.

Karen said: ‘I introduce them as my daughters.’

The doting mum also touched on her younger son heading to Australia next month where he will play AFL.

Admitting it will be strange to see him Down Under, she reasoned he would be fine with his other half by his side.

The teenager’s planned move to Melbourne AFL team, St Kilda, was well-known ahead of the championships.

While McDonald dodged questions about the move on Sunday, AFL have since confirmed that the rising star will be making the move ‘next month to start life in the AFL.’

The Crossmolina native signed a contract with St Kilda last year, but had committed to finish his Leaving Cert, which he sat at the start of summer.

In tandem, he had previously revealed he had set his sights on earning a place on the county team during his Leaving Cert year.
