Young Irish cyclist Hugh Óg Mulhearne continues to turn heads at this year’s Rás Tailteann after another strong week in the saddle against some of the best riders in the country.

The 17-year-old is currently sitting 30th in the general classification, just three minutes behind the yellow jersey heading into the closing stages of the famous race.

Mulhearne has already made history as the youngest rider ever to start the Rás, with Cycling Ireland granting special permission for him to compete as part of the Irish team.

This week’s route has tested riders with demanding mountain stages, including a gruelling 200-kilometre section through the Cork and Kerry mountains and another difficult day in the Wicklow mountains.

Despite his age and the tough conditions, Mulhearne has consistently been involved at the front of the race and has proudly represented the Irish jersey throughout the week.

The final stage of the Rás takes place tomorrow from Carlow to Dunboyne, where the talented young rider will look to finish an impressive debut performance on a high.
