Rory McIlroy finished third on 13-under-par as Wyndham Clark produced a brilliant late finish to win the BMW Championship at Bellerive Country Club.

McIlroy battled his way into contention throughout the weekend and entered the final round among the leading challengers, having shown impressive form after a difficult start to the tournament.

However, it was Clark who produced the decisive finish. After seeing his advantage reduced during the final round, the American birdied each of the last three holes to regain control and secure his third victory of the season.

McIlroy ultimately finished two shots behind Clark, but his performance provides plenty of encouragement as the FedExCup Playoffs move towards their final stage.

The result also adds another chapter to the rivalry between McIlroy and Clark, with the American having now got the better of the Northern Irishman in two major events this season.

For McIlroy, attention now turns to the final stage of the FedExCup Playoffs, with another opportunity to challenge for silverware on the horizon.
