Waterford teenager Maisy Vignes has made history after becoming the first athlete from the South East to win gold at the IBJJF European Jiu-Jitsu Championships.
Maisy, who trains with Ganbaru Jiu Jitsu in Waterford, secured the prestigious title in Rome after an outstanding performance in the Juvenile 2 Middle Blue division.
The young competitor enjoyed an impressive run through the competition, recording two swift foot lock submission victories with just over a minute of combined time on the mat.
Her achievement marks a significant milestone for both Waterford and the wider South East, putting the region firmly on the map at one of the sport’s major international competitions.
Maisy’s success is also a proud moment for her family and the Ganbaru Jiu Jitsu club. Her father, Mook Vignes, a black belt and her primary coach, has played a central role in her development, while her younger brother Ellis also trains alongside her.
The European title is a testament to Maisy’s dedication, hard work and commitment to the sport, as she celebrates a remarkable achievement on the international stage.
