Waterford FC striker Tommy Lonergan has been named in the PFAI Premier Division Team of the Year, following a vote by professional players across the league.
It comes after a rich vein of form for the striker. Lonergan scored a dramatic late winner in Waterford’s 3-2 victory over Galway United at the RSC, then scored twice for Ireland Under-21s as they beat England for the first time at that level to reach the European Championship qualifier play-offs.
He is also currently at the top of the scoring list in the race for the golfden boot in the 2026 season with 15 league goals in 32 appearances.
Lonergan has also been shortlisted for the PFAI Young Player of the Year, alongside Shamrock Rovers’ Adam Brennan and Cork City’s Cillian Murphy. The winner will be announced at the association’s annual awards next month.
