Fourmilewater GAA Club will mark a major milestone this week as the club celebrates its centenary with a special event in Ballymacarbry Community Centre and the launch of a commemorative jersey inspired by the club’s earliest teams.

Speaking to WLR ahead of the celebrations, former Waterford senior hurling manager and Fourmilewater clubman Michael Ryan reflected on the significance of reaching 100 years since the club’s foundation in 1926.

“A hundred years is a long time,” Ryan said. “The club has been up and running all those years. We’ve had good days and bad days, and it’s only right to commemorate those hundred years and remember the people who founded the club back in 1926.”

The centenary celebrations begin with a special gathering in Ballymacarbry Community Centre, where the club will officially unveil a replica of the jersey worn by Fourmilewater teams during the club’s first decade.

Unlike the club’s current predominantly blue jersey, the commemorative design features striking blue and white vertical stripes, faithfully recreating the colours worn by the club’s founding members.

“We decided it would be a nice gesture to look back in time and commemorate what those founder members did when they started the club all those years ago,” Ryan explained.
