Waterford are through to the TG4 Munster Senior Football Championship final following a hard-fought victory over Tipperary at Cappoquin Logistics Fraher Field.

The Déise, playing with a strong wind in the opening half, held a 0-5 to 0-3 lead at the break before pulling away in the second period to secure their place in a meeting with reigning champions Kerry.

Kellyann Hogan starred for Waterford in the opening half, kicking four frees as the home side edged in front after Tipperary had responded through Kirsty Crotty Ryan.

Bríd McMaugh also raised a white flag for Waterford before Lauren Cunningham pointed in added time to leave just two between the teams at half-time.

Tipperary drew level early in the second half through a Crotty Ryan free, but Waterford responded strongly with scores from Lauren McGregor, Eve Power, Clare Walsh, Hogan, and Ruby Browne, helping the Déise build a five-point advantage.

Ana-Rose Kennedy pulled a point back late on for Tipperary and almost found a dramatic goal, but Waterford goalkeeper Katelyn Gardner produced an excellent save to deny her.

The win was particularly impressive given the absence of team captain Emma Murray, who has departed to play with Geelong in this season’s AFLW campaign.

Waterford, who finished third in Division One of the Lidl National League for the second consecutive season, now look ahead to a tough provincial final clash against Kerry.
