Clashmore Kinsalebeg and Brickey Rangers go head-to-head in what promises to be a fascinating Cappoquin Logistics Waterford Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship final on Sunday afternoon.

The final throws in at 1.45 pm in Cappoquin Logistics Fraher Field, with the game forming part of a double-header that also includes the Senior Hurling Championship semi-final between Roanmore and Fourmilewater at 3.45 pm.

There is plenty of intrigue surrounding Sunday’s contest, with two West Waterford clubs battling for the Premier Intermediate title.

Brickey Rangers booked their place in the final after getting the better of Cappoquin and Affane/Cappoquin/Tourin, in their semi-final, 1-24 to 1-18.

Clashmore Kinsalebeg, meanwhile, defeated Portlaw in their semi-final after they had won all five of their group games. Clashmore came through that contest on a scoreline of 0-23 to 1-13.

For Clashmore, the final represents another important step for a club that last played at senior level in 2009. They have a wealth of experience within their ranks, with players such as Brian Lynch, Paul O’Connor, Brian O’Halloran, Tadagh DeBurca and Sam Fitzgerald bringing considerable experience to the side.

Brickey Rangers were competing in the senior grade as recently as last year, before their relegation play-off defeat to Ferrybank.

Their current side combines that senior-level experience with a hugely promising group of younger players. Cillian Ryan has been outstanding throughout the campaign, while Cormac O’Grady, Tom O’Connell and Cormac Deevey have also made significant contributions.

De Burca produced a particularly impressive semi-final performance, while Tom O’Connell scored six points and Cormac O’Grady added four. Peter Cummins also made a major impact from the bench with four points.

The final presents an intriguing contrast in styles and experience. Clashmore have players who know what it takes to compete at the senior level, while Brickey Rangers have a younger side that has been developing over the past few years.

For Brickey Rangers, there is also the motivation of returning to the senior grade after last year’s relegation, with their quality and emerging young talent suggesting they have ambitions of making an immediate return.

It should make for a compelling contest between two clubs with plenty at stake.

Clashmore Kinsalebeg v Brickey Rangers throws in at 1.45 pm on Sunday at Cappoquin Logistics Fraher Field.
