Munster head coach Niamh Briggs says her side are “in a good spot” as they chase a third straight win in the Women’s Interprovincial Championship, but warns that momentum can disappear quickly in a sprint-format competition.

Munster set themselves the target of winning their first two home games and have delivered on that, with Briggs pleased by their cohesion and ability to move the ball, but still demanding more.

“We gave away nine penalties last week,” she noted, stressing that discipline, breakdown accuracy and ball-carrying detail are key focus points heading into this weekend.

A major positive has been the impact of Munster’s younger cohort, many of whom are involved in NTS and PTS pathway programmes and have come through a tough summer of training together. Briggs highlighted contracted back-row Beth – celebrating her 21st birthday – as an example of that development paying off in terms of strength and repeatability across the game.

Munster are waiting on captain Maeve D’Arcy’s fitness, with a call to be made in consultation with medical staff. Briggs described D’Arcy as “our glue”, praising her leadership even while sidelined.

This weekend brings a first away day of the campaign and a step into the unknown for parts of the group, with Connacht next up.

Briggs expects a serious test, pointing to Connacht’s “star power” and their gritty win over Ulster plus narrow defeat to Leinster, but is clear about Munster’s aim: keep improving, keep the jersey competitive, and keep the momentum rolling.
