World-class kickboxing and boxing talent will descend on the Kilbarry Sports Centre this Sunday for Battle in the Beg, a 16-fight card showcasing some of Ireland’s most exciting fighters.

The show, run by veteran coach and World Kickboxing Organisation Ireland Director Billy O’Sullivan, features a mix of kickboxing and boxing bouts, with competitors travelling from across the country. Doors open at 2:30pm, with action running until around 7pm.

Headlining is Cillian Freeman, contesting a domestic Irish sports boxing title over five rounds. Freeman, who also helps O’Sullivan with matchmaking and promotion, balances fight training with coaching and gym admin, describing combat sports as a complete ‘education’ in mindset, discipline, and visualisation.

Seventeen-year-old David Pacud also features in a standout clash against fellow world champion Alan Gillinson of Byrne, a catchweight bout pitting mat specialist against ring specialist. Pacud credits years of kickboxing for his composure, stress management, and ability to carry himself confidently in every area of life.

O’Sullivan stressed the wider community impact of the gym, which supports people with mental health challenges, those returning from prison, and athletes with disabilities, alongside offering a free women’s self-defence class every Thursday from 6–7pm.
